London London is the Capital of Britain and it has got about 7 million inhabitants.

It s in south-east Britain, the Lowland. The river Thames goes through London.

The most famous sights are Tower-Bridge, Big Ben, Houses of Parliaments, St. Pauls Cathedrale and the Tower of London, where the Crown Jewels are.

The Crown Jewels are the Ampulla and the Anointing Spoon, the two orbs, the Sceptre, the Sword of State, St Edward s Crown and the Imperial State Crown.

Many of the sights are in the City of London, where also the stock exchange is.

The City of Westminster is the government district and eastend is an old harbour district.

London itself is a metropole and a big tourist attraction.

Traditional food of London is Fish & Chips or lamb with mint-sauce. But of course you can eat other things there, too.

Nice old Pubs are opened all time a day and you can find lots of Britains, drinking beer in those little bars but if you aren t 18, it s not allowed to stay there, only at a family-room. If you want to go shopping, there are many shops and department stores in Regent street.

More expensive stores are Harrods, where the Windsors buy their things or Libertys s, London s oldest and nicest department store.

London is really interesting for art-fans. At the moment it s the arts centre No. 1. There s a weekly culture- magazine, which is called Time Out, where you can read all about the cultural events.

Modern art is showed at the Tate Gallery, decorative art at Victoria & Albert museum.

The most popular crime museum is Sherlock Holmes Museum at Baker Street.

The British Museum is one of the most famous Museums of the world. said the director of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and it s right.

There s for example the Stone of Rosetta, which helped Champollion to decipher the hieroglyphs. To find a nice hotel in London isn t difficult, there are pretty ones at each corner but many of them are very expensive, so if you don t want to spend too much money, you should ask for information at a travel agency before you go on holiday.

To watch Changing of the guard at the Horse-Guard is very special. If you re interrested in seeing the Queen s home go to Buckingham palace. It s official areas are opened to visitors on a regular basis, the State Rooms are opened in August and September each year.
