Principle
On occasion an employee may develop problems with work performance, attendance, behavior, etc., which need to be addressed. The Performance Improvement Process has been designed to provide fair and consistent procedures for all employees in dealing with performance issues.
Purpose
The goals of the Performance Improvement process are to resolve problems, improve performance, and retain employees. The Performance Improvement process is intended to correct an employee's behavior with progressively greater consequences attached if improvement is not demonstrated.
Steps in the Performance Improvement Process:
Coaching/Counseling
a) As soon as a manager becomes aware of a problem they need to speak to the employee regarding the issue.
b) Consult with the Human Resources for advice.
c) Develop an action plan that documents the problem, performance standards, expectations for improvement, and timeframes for resolution.
First Written Warning
a) If an employee has not demonstrated sufficient improvement after being coached they will be given a First Written Warning letter. The manager should consult with the Human Resources regarding the specific issues and actions
