Lexical Difficulties în Translating Legal Texts

INTRODUCTION

The Course Paper Lexical Problems in Technical Translation is devoted to highlight the continuing evolvement of the translation industry in the changing times and see the difference between varieties of translation. We will mainly put under investigation technical translation as a type of specialized translation and focus our analysis on the lexical problems which arise in the process of technical translation and weigh up the pros and cons of Human Translation and Machine Translation.

The actuality of the given topic is determined by an increasing interest in the subject, mainly the ways of indentifying the translation of technical terminology from English into Romanian and Spanish, indentifying the translation of scientific research, geopolitical negotiation, economic exchange and many other activities within different domains.

The main goal of the study is to detect lexical problems in technical translation and to find the best way of translating them. The core objective of our research paper is to show the relationship that exists between the source text and the target text regarding the lexical problems of translating specialized terminology, polysemantic words and false friends.

The research objectives of the work are:

• to list all the types of translation;

• to define technical translation and to specify the most notorious scientists in this field;

• to outline the characteristics of the text in technical translation;

• to analyze the peculiarities of human versus machine translation;

• to indentify lexical problems in technical translation and to analyze the most interesting examples.

• to highlight some difficulties while translating technical texts.

The research methods applied in the study include:

• Theoretical analysis of lexical problems in technical translation;

• Comparative analysis of lexical problems translating from English into Romanian. The comparative method of investigation helps us to find the similarities and the differences between human and machine translation of the same text.

The research material is based on 70 English and Romanian examples from different domains. Some of these domains are: Law, Technology, Economy,Literature.

The paper under investigation consists of an Introduction, Two Chapters, Conclusion, Appendix, Bibliography and Summary.

The Introduction explains the urgency of the research theme, its theoretical and practical value. It provides the main goal, tasks and objectives of the Course Paper, includes the methods applied in the study and its practical application.

Chapter I The Continuing Evolvement of the Translation Industry contains accurately organized information on the evolution of the Theory of Translation, scholars in given domain, definitions as well as vivid characteristics of the text in Technical translation and differences between Human Translation versus Machine translation. The aims of this chapter are to show the types of translation and the differences which exist between them, to identify the text markers in technical translation and to reveal their characteristics.

Chapter II Lexical Problems in Technical Translation is open to two basic issues in the present research paper and namely lexical problems and technical translation. It enlists a categorization of some problems which may occur in the process of translating technical terms and texts from different fields. In this chapter we will focus our analysis on 70 examples from Economy, Law, Literature. We intend to analyze lexical problems which may appear while translating technical texts.

Conclusion encloses the most significant similarities and differences as well as further possibilities for research.
