Stuart Russell is professor an chair of Computer science at University of Berkeley, California. He is known for his contributions to artificial intelligence field. Along with the co-author of this book, Peter Norvig, he is a member of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). If S.Russell is currently professor in the field of artificial intelligence, P.Norvig is Director of research at Google Inc, although he was the head of computational sciences at NASA and professor at the University of Berkeley.

The "modern approach" of the book is the study of artificial intelligence through the idea of an intelligent agent, an agent which is defined by the authors as "anything that can ve viewed as perceiving its environment through sensors and acting upon the environment through effectors". Even if in the field of artificial intelligence it haven't been said everything yet, this book tries to cover a large area which encompasses logic, probability and continuous mathematics, all from microeletronic devices to robotic planetary explorers. Of large dimensions, the book is divided in eight parts, each one treating the "intelligent agent" through an other perspective. Part I, Artificial Intelligence, treats the subject of an AI enterprise, based upon the idea of intelligent agents-systems, which have the ability of thinking and then executing tasks. In Parts II to V the authors are describing the intelligent agent and the part that is responsible for making decisions. These parts are presented under the names: II-Problem solving, III-Knowledge and Reasoning, IV-Planning, V-Uncertain Knowledge and Reasoning. Communicating, Perceiving and Acting- part VII presents the behavior of the intelligent agent in the environment, the way it acts, whether by hearing, vision, touching and understanding language. As Conclusions, part VIII, is an analyze of Artificial Intelligence from the past through the future, along with the implications (philosophical and ethical) which Artificial Intelligence involves.

This book is primarily intended for use in an undergraduate course or course sequence. It can also be used in a graduate-level course. Because of its comprehensive coverage and large number of detailed algorithms, it is useful as a primary reference volume for AI graduate students and professionals wishing to branch out beyond their own subfield.

Business Intelligence

Abstract

The goal of every business is to be successful by gaining new customers and retaining old customers. A crucial way of achieving this end is through Business Intelligence. Business Intelligence is also known as simply BI. Business Intelligence can be defined as a process of collecting information in the area of business. An essential idea of business is that data is enhanced into information and then into knowledge. Business use BI to gain an advantage in the marketplace by understanding their customers's needs, customers' decision-making processes and economic, cultural and technological trends. Business Intelligence involves analyzing not only the customer but the entire industry as a whole. Finally, business intelligence is driven by a goal set by the company. A goal which can be short or long-term.

Keywords: inteligenta economica, inteligenta afacerii, informatie, cunostere, date, depozit de date.

Introducere

Manole VELICANU, in Revista Informatica Economica, nr. 3(23)/2002. Acesta afirma ca ,,Inteligenta Afacerii se refera la capacitatea de a transforma Stuart Russell is professor an chair of Computer science at University of Berkeley, California.
