The Danube Delta

The Danube, springs from Germany and it gathers all the tributary streams from 10 countries and crosses 4 capital cities. After covering 2860 km and before following into the Black Sea, it forms a delta. Related to the surface of Romania, the Danube Delta is situated in the Southeastern part of the country, it has the shape of the Greek letter "delta" and it is bordered in the Southwestern part by Dobrogea Plateau, in the Northern part by the Ukrainian border and in the Eastern part by the Black Sea.

The Delta's inhabitats have a way of living that is not changeed for centuries. Delta's inhabitats is grouped in 15 townships and 2 towns: Tulcea town and Sulina town.

Tulcea town : the entrance gate in the Delta, town whit naval, industrial and martim function.

Sulina town : the eastic town with the loest altitude (3.5m).

Seen from Tulcea's hills, the Danube Delta appears like a greenery surface crossed by silver stripes.

The Danube Delta it's a plain formation, with the 50 cm medium altitude, made of positive relief (grinds, islands) and negative relief: Danube's branches, channels, streams, sloughs plashes and lakes.

His surface, together with the Rasim - Sinoe Laguna is of 5050 km from which 732 belongs to Ukraine. The actual Danube has a surface of 2540 Km, and his surface is increasing every year with 40 m, because of the 67 millions tones of alluvia's deposited by the river.

The first historical information about the Danube Delta comes from the Greek Herodot "

In the 15th century, Tara Romaneasca and Moldova loose the Danube mouths because they have been conquered by the Ottoman Empire and thus, until the the second half of 19th century, delta was a "terra incognito".

The fauna

The Danube Delta is thrue faunistic paradis. Here lives 98% from the european acvatic fauna, still here some rare mamifers fiind there home.

Birds are those that create Danube Delta faimos. The fame belongs to the 327 species whitch we can met in Danube Delta.

The acvatic birds are the most species: here stays 81 species and step by 60 species, forming a total of 141 species, thing that represent 82%.

Lots of duck species , goose species, seagulls species apear often in diferents biotops. In sea forests stays 64 species avifuna: blackbird, woodpekers, robin, chaffinches, starling, tha small acvila and the fisher eagle. Pheasant partridge, quail, laverock, the field firs. Home aprow, martin, stork, theese are species that we can find the houses.
