From the large variety of themes, I decided to choose this topic, mainly because I regarded the British and the American systems of government to be two of the most powerful and popular in the world.

Additionally, due to the fact that I learned about the topic in the first year of study at university, I found it to be very interesting, and, on the one hand, I wanted to go thoroughly into it.

On the other hand I could see the difference between the Romanian system of government as compared to the British and American ones.

Then, I considered that politics is the most relevant aspect in emphasizing the evolution of the two countries. Finally, I think that politics is reflected in people s way of living and influences each of us, more or less visibly.

The difficulties I encountered in the research process reflect the decision of detailing specific aspects of the topic. In particular, I considered that the Tories and the Whigs dynasties are the most representative for the British system of government in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Furthermore, one other difficulty refers to the choice of the bibliography. For example, even if I studied books with heavy and very formal vocabulary, finally, I decided to use the books I thought were the most concludent and legible.

Finally, the choices and decisions refer to the three chapters of the paper. Therefore, I considered mostly relevant to present in detail the history of the two countries, several of the most important political aspectsaEUR"the Nine Years War, the Hanoverian Accession, the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party and its leaders, as for England, and for America, the changes brought by the War of Independence and the American ConstitutionaEUR", and finally, the contemporary issues I thought to be the most significant of allaEUR"the Constitutions, the British Prime Minister s role, the American Vice-President s role, the British Parliament and, the White House.

In the darkest of the Dark Ages, the fifth and the sixth centuries, there were many kings in Britain, but no kingdoms. But there were communities of people, which we might describe as tribes.

They were organized and led by men, whom Latin writers came to call reges or kings.

Among such community kingdoms were the Hwicce, Anglo-Saxon settlers in the luscious lower Severn, who remained an identifiable community even in the tenth century.

The Cantii, had lived in the south-east peninsula during Roman times, and gave their name to the early English Kingdom of Kent and to the shire that later replaced it.

After the final withdrawal of the Roman legions (AD 408) from the provinces of Britannia, the mass of British inhabitants were left to their own devices to preserve order and rule as best they could. In short, Roman rule in Britannia disintegrated and left a host of small, ill-defined kingdoms that formed a policy not much different from that of Scotland and Ireland, at the same time.
