Recent offshore activities are continuously moving
toward deeper and deeper waters with increased
problems related to the specific offshore activities.
The general trend will not change in the future and
it is foreseeable that it will challenge the
capabilities of the existing technologies to
positively answer to demands.
Offshore vessels operations are certainly one of the
most challenging aspects of current marine
activities. A good station keeping capability must be
assured to the majority of vessels during different
offshore activities.
In order to build the basic dynamic positioning
general problem we should restart from the
generation of the general problem of the
behaviour of a floating structure which has been
already discussed.
Then, waves, wind and current excitation forces
need to be taken into account.
In this respect the second order problem has to
be generated based on the theory of so called
"small parameter, ?" developed by Nayfeh &
Mook.
